Where can I order Pan's Labyrinth?

The paperback, hardcover and ebook are only available from Amazon. The audiobook, currently in production, will be available more widely.

Will Pan's Labyrinth get a sequel?

Probably, one day. Meanwhile, Violet's father will get his own novel, set in Violet's world.

What are you currently working on?

My plan is to write a few companion chapters and stories. Later in the year I'll work on a novel featuring Violet's father. Specifically his life before Violet and her sisters were born. He's quite an interesting character, and not at all what he seems.

What happened to Mia?

I feel it's quite clear but I'm hesitant to define it because you're supposed to read between the lines. There are various layers of inferred meaning, metaphor and allegory throughout the novel that all intertwine. When understood together, it's evident certain things that happened had to happen that way. If this is a subject of interest, I may write a companion work to describe these various themes as they run throughout the book.

How long did it take to write Pan's Labyrinth?

The entire process took about 3 months. I wrote on average 10,000 words per week, writing 6 days per week. It was very intense, so next time I will likely take it slower.

What is Alasdair's Annex?

It's a substack (newsletter) where you can get updates on new releases, extra chapters, short stories from the world of Pan's Labyrinth. Some of these are free for all subscribers, and some require a paid subscription.

Companion stories?

I plan on releasing an additional chapter that follows Marcus and Ivy during the time they become separated. I also plan on writing some additional fairy tales in the same theme. These will be available only to subscribers of Alasdair's Annex.

How do you feel about fan fiction of your work?

It's fine as long as it's non-commercial.

What's the history of the Barony of Blackness?

The Barony of Blackness belonged the Wedderburn family in the 1600s, who today hold the Earldom of Dundee. The Barony of Blackness was sold by the Wedderburns at auction in 1742 to their friend, Alexander Hunter. It then passed to his son, David Hunter (1743-1809), then to his son, another Alexander Hunter (1770-1812), and again to another David Hunter (1803-1882).

A Crown Charter from George IV officially recognizing the Barony of Blackness was granted in favor of David Hunter, signed on 2nd of June and sealed on 11th of August, 1826. Unsurprisingly, David Hunter named his first son Alexander, and who then named his first son David, bringing us up to 1940.

On the 8th of January 1940, the trustees for David Hunter transferred his assets, including the Barony of Blackness, to Blackness Estates Limited. On 1st of May 1964, Blackness Estates Limited was liquidated due to voluntary bankruptcy and the Barony of Blackness was sold to Eagle Star Insurance Company. Eagle Star Insurance Company later became Zurich Assurance Limited, and on 29th January 2019 the Barony of Blackness was acquired by Alasdair Forsythe.

In case you were wondering why an insurance company would buy a title of nobility, it's because up until 2004, a Baron was able to collect feu duty from certain activities, such as the operation of utility companies within the jurisdiction of the Barony. This made the title an attractive investment. The Abolition of Feudal Tenure etc. (Scotland) Act 2000 abolished the feudal system of land tenure in Scotland from November 28, 2004 onwards. The Act specifically allowed for the preservation of the title of "Baron" as a personal dignity, no longer with rights over the land. As a result, the titles of Scottish feudal baronies became personal dignities.

The Barony of Blackness was authenticated by Coulters Legal LLP (Edinburgh) and Thorntons Law LLP (Perth), registered in the Scottish Barony Register on 25th of February 2019 (SBR/2019/01), and is listed in Burke's Peerage. The Barony of Blackness is currently held by Alasdair Forsythe. The legal form of address is "The Much Honoured Alasdair Forsythe, Baron of Blackness".
